Outreach

We are a church that rolls up its sleeves and gets to work. Atonement offers a wide range of ministries that reach out to church and community. Explore and respond to community needs, especially hunger and housing, our neighborhood and the greater St. Cloud community, and the wider world. Advocate for a more just and merciful church and society.

Hunger

Community Food Shelves

Every week, Atonement collects food for local food shelves and has a special drive in March during Minnesota FoodShare month. Annually, we provide volunteers to assist clients in selecting groceries at the St. Cloud Emergency Food Shelf through Catholic Charities. Contact Mata Carlson by email or phone, 320-252-8371.

Home Delivered Meals

A ministry that delivers hot meals to the homes of elders in need of a nutritious meal. Volunteers from Atonement deliver meals for two weeks, twice a year. Contact LouAnn Garner by phone, 320-252-1555.

Hospitality Team

The Hospitality Team meets as needed to plan the meals for funerals and other events held at Atonement. Volunteers decorate and set tables, cook, and help with cleanup. Contact Arlene Omlid by phone, 320-253-9330, or Sally Reichert by phone, 320-253-2932.

Housing

Habitat for Humanity

Build, repair, and help finance homes for others in our community. Contact Loretta Anderson by phone, 320-492-3153.

Place of Hope: Church of the Week

A few weeks every year, Atonement provides food and shelter to people experiencing homelessness when local shelters are full. Volunteers provide and serve meals, transport guests, and serve as overnight hosts at the church. Please note that we need both male and female volunteers for every Church of the Week. Contact Kris Boyle by phone, 320-259-4719.

Community

Place of Hope: Helping Hands for Hope

An outreach ministry that collects items for Place of Hope Ministries. Donations such as toilet paper, paper plates, cleaning supplies, and garbage bags are received each month. Volunteers take inventory, and purchase and deliver items to Place of Hope. Contact Phil Sturlaugson by email or phone, 320-259-6451.

Prayer Beads

Prayer beads are given to those experiencing difficult times to use when they pray. We make these prayer beads for our pastors to provide during visits. Contact Mata Carlson by email or phone, 320-252-8371.

Prayer Chain

Prayer ministry to support the needs of others within and outside of our faith community. Requested prayers are passed through the chain via email. Confidentiality is strictly observed. Contact April Carlson, office administrator, by email or phone, 320-252-6203.

Global

Companion Synod Program

Atonement supports the Southwestern Minnesota Synod’s partnership with the Southeastern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa. Together, we seek ways to strengthen our relationship with our companion brothers and sisters. Contact Kris Lehman by phone, 320-259-4412.

Sunbeam Boys’ Home

Atonement is part owner—along with Peace Lutheran Church, New London, and King of Kings Lutheran Church, Woodbury—of the Sunbeam Boys’ Home in Jamaica. We support the children’s home financially, as well as by sending mission teams to show love to these boys. Contact Rick Neyssen by phone, 320-253-2546.
